Wedding Ceremony Songs: Your Recessional!
After your kiss (and perhaps a pronouncement from your officiant - more on that later), you and your partner get to walk back down the aisle! You’ve done it! After all of the months of planning, this moment will feel amazing.
How to best punctuate that special moment after your “I do’s”? We recommend music that feels celebratory and upbeat.
The classic recessional song (that you have heard in every movie wedding scene) is Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March.
These days, many of our clients choose something different for their recessional. Here’s a list of songs, both classical and contemporary, that we think work wonderfully for string quartet:
All You Need is Love, The Beatles
Marry You, Bruno Mars
Starlight, Muse
Shut Up and Dance, Walk the Moon
This Will Be An Everlasting Love, Natalie Cole
Allegro from Spring, The Four Seasons (Vivaldi)
Viva la Vida, Coldplay
Hornpipe, Water Music (Handel)
One important tip: Make sure the person handling your ceremony music knows exactly when to cue the music (as you kiss, after a pronouncement from your officiant, etc). If executed perfectly, the start of the recessional music can create a truly magical moment - that is why Cattus Quartet’s painstaking attention to detail is so valuable.
